It seems there is always a theme to my weeks: food and Ollie (I actually typed food and eating first – that’s true too I suppose). Usually the two are combined in some way. First up, it was a Friday lunch date with two of my friends and Mr O. He sat up and had his bottle followed by at least half an avo (growing boy and all) and we enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches and chips at Buzz Gasworks.
Can you believe this little monster was 5 months old last weekend? I am now one of those mums that starts sentences with ‘it seems like yesterday…’
We attended another first Birthday party over the weekend. Can you guess that theme? Isn’t it beautiful? My friend did such an amazing job.
I’d never have though of a rainbow polka dot party but it was so fun and pretty. She even cut out circles of paper to decorate all the walls and the Birthday girl was resplendent in spots too.
On Sunday morning the boys took me out to breakfast back at Samson and Sophie (I’m obsessed). I can now eat chocolate again and celebrated the fact with a slice of chocolate cake for breakfast dessert. I don’t think I could have chosen a better cake to mark my return to chocolate eating.
It was a gluten free 5-spice cake and it was possibly the best gluten free chocolate cake I’ve ever had. Maybe it was because I’ve been deprived for 5 months but I think anyone would agree.
Will gets to work from home at least one a fortnight which is a great treat for Ollie to get to see Daddy a little bit through the day. It does mean that I have to scrounge something better than what I usually have for lunch (which varies from avo on toast to picking at things in the fridge). Seeing as it was so cold on Tuesday I went all out and made pies. I found some pie filling and puff pastry in the freezer and half an hour later lunch was ready.
I later had a look at the blog to see when I actually made the pie filling… 2012. Oops. We survived though. Just shows those freezer guides are just guides. Either that or we both have iron stomachs from me serving food that is way past its best.
After mother’s group on Wednesday, Ollie and I joined Guppy and Mum at Chermside for a bit of shopping. They were both doing wheelies in their chairs (ok not really but it was pretty cute). Would you believe there are 96 years and 3 days between their ages? It was Ollie’s first shopping trip and he was such a good boy, although didn’t sleep from before mother’s group until 4pm. I think there was way too much to look at. He was pooped by bed time that’s for sure.
